MACA Museo de Arte Contemporaneo de Alicante

I liked MACA the very first moment I stepped into the entrance hall. The former Asegurada Museum, which was inaugurated in 1977, consists today of different collections. It welcomes the visitor with its airy, modern atmosphere and lots of day light. Moreover, MACA is situated right in the old historic part of Alicante right across the monumental Basilica of Santa Maria.

Sempere, known for his metallic 3D sculptures and born in the area of Alicante, offered his private collection in 1977 to the city of Alicante. MACA hosts the 20th-Century Art Collection, the Juana Francés Collection, the Eusebio Sempere Collection and temporary exhibitions.

Wandering through the four-story building, you find big names artists like Miró, Picasso, Dali, Sempere and Vasarely and many more.

My favourite was definitely one of Julio le Parc. Estructura Luminosa with sparkling reflections on the metallic squares, I loved the most!

And best of all: entrance to the museum is free! So, it’s a must see when visiting Alicante.
